February Update

Back for another update about our firstie world! February absolutely FLEW by. I cannot believe that it is over. Check out the photos below to get  glimpse into what our February consisted of.

Measurement
We competed a unit on measurement this month. We measures all kinds of things using paper clips and connecting cubes. The students loved measuring real items around the classroom along with images on paper.

Graphing/Tallies
Another unit of study we had during this month was graphing. There were an abundance of activites that we got to do in order to learn and practice the skill of making and reading graphs. Check it out!

We practiced making and keeping track of tellies by flipping coins. They gave a tally for heads and a tally for tails.

Students cut and glue pictures to form pictographs.

Students sorted crayons by color, and then crated bar graphs of how many of each color that there were. Then they had to answer questions involving the graph that they made.

There are TONS of graphing games online that the students got to play as well.
Descriptive Writing/Adjectives
We studied adjectives a lot this month. Around valentines day, the students got to decorate a heart in whatever way they would like. Then, they had to come up with a list of adjectives to describe their heart. The final step was to use those adjectives in a descriptive writing about the heart. The hearts, and their writings, are now hung up all over the room. They are all so unique and creative!

Independent and Partner Reading
Reading time is a very special time for me as a teacher. It is actually my favorite part of the day! The students are always to engaged and excited about sitting with their book nooks and reading. It is a great opportunity for me, as well, to walk around and have some one-on-one conversations with kiddos about their reading. Also, partnering reading has become a highlight for the kiddos. They love to share their books and read to one another. This is something else I LOVE to see!

Nonfiction Writing
We have slowly started to dip into our large nonfiction unit of the year. We had studied nonfiction quite a bit in reading, and now it is beginning to transition over into their writing. To start, the students started to work together to just come up with facts. they first wrote facts about themselves, then about their classroom, and then about the outdoors. They especially enjoyed writing facts about the outdoors because in order to learn and develop some facts, we got to take a nature walk out on Luff's trail.

Valentines Bags
For Valentines day, the students decorated bags for their valentines day cards. What a FUN day that was! their individuality shown bright through these bags, and their smiles lit the room.

Valentines Day Party/Valentine Exchange
Really the photos speak for themselves. It was just simply a fun day for us all.

Luff Leader of Good Character
This months character leader was the lovely Chloe Green! Chloe is a very sweet and smart girl. She shows responsibility and pride every day in our classroom. I am very proud to have her in my class this year. Good job, Chloe!

Well, that is all I have for this update! We only have about two and a half months left of school, and boy am I dreading the end. With each passing day, I grow more distressed at the idea of not seeing your kiddos every day. I am going to make these last few months truly last!

Thanks for stopping in!
