March was a short month. With conferences and spring break, this month (and third quarter) really just flew by! Below is a peek into what Room 25 was up to all month!
Google Expedition
(this actually happened at the end of February)
As I am sue most of you saw on the local news, our school was granted the opportunity to take our kids on some Google Expeditions. In short, it is a 360 degree view of different things around the world. It is the closest thing to "virtual reality" that our students and staff have ever experienced. Our kiddos got to visit a few different national monuments like the Statue of Liberty and the Lincoln Memorial. It was an incredible experience that they will never forget.
Dr. Seuss Day!
Dr. Seuss day was an awesome day! We read "Red Fish, Blue Fish" and sorted goldfish crackers by color. We read "Bartholomew and the Ooblec" and actually made some Ooblec. We read "Fox in Socks" and matched different socks that had words on them to create compound words. Then, the bets part, was having the Missouri Mavericks hockey team's mascot come for a Dr. Seuss book reading. It was very busy, but very fun!
Time to the Half-Hour
We spent most of this month practicing how to tell time. Previously, they learned just time to the hour. Now we focused more on time to the half-hour. It was a bit tricky for them to get which hour it would be if the hour hand was between two numbers, but after much practice they seemed to get it. I am very proud of their progress.
Partner Reading
One day this month, we hosted a gathering with some of Mrs. Thomas' friends. They spent the whole day in our room learning and working together. It was very fun to see your children building some new relationships with other students. They had a blast sharing their books with one another!
Nonfiction Writing
This month we worked on writing nonfiction. Each student was assigned a partner in the classroom. They first has to gather information about their partner by interviewing them. Then, they had to write a fact book about their partner. They did an excellent job with this project and loved sharing the books with each other. In fact, the books they created were gifts for one another. They all seemed to beam with pride when they showed their partner what they had created.
Making Monsters!
One of my favorite things to do is to open our classoom to visitors. One special day in March, Will's aunt visited from Florida. She is an artist who was in town for an art show. She volunteered her time to come in to share and discuss her work. Her main focus is on sculpting monsters and putting personality into things that are typically seen as scary. She read a story to the class, and had them decorate their own monster masks. It was a special day for the whole class, especially for Will!
Pajama Party Number 2!
The class earned 12 scooby snacks again! We all got to celebrate with another pajama party. Oh how exciting this day was! We had a doughnut breakfast, a stuffed animal/toy share, we played a "sleeping" game, we wrote about our pajamas, we compared/contrasted real bears and teddy bears, and we had special snack time. It was an excellent day that perfectly kicked off our spring break.
Character Trait Winner
This months character trait winner was Jack! Jack is a great leader in our classroom who is always thinking win-win. We are all very lucky to have him around us each day. Good job Jack!
Well, March is over! We all have a wonderful 10 day break ahead of us. I hope it brings us all relaxation and joy. It is perfect for us all to rejuvenate and return ready to learn and work hard through he end of the year. The time is going to travel so fast. I am going t make every second count with your kiddos!
