Subtraction Action!
We began our unit on subtraction this week. We practiced the "take away" method with snap cubes to kick things off!
Vowels
Vowels are something we will focus on for most of the year. This past week, we did a whole group game where we had to find words and sort them into the correct vowel families.
Awh, Fiddle Sticks!
Fiddle Sticks is a new game I introduced to the kiddos this week. It is a fun game for a small group to practice reading tricky words.
ABC Order
The weeks grammar focus was putting words into alphabetical order. This is a tricky concept for most kiddos so we will continue to practice. Simply using popsicle sticks with words written on them is an easy way for students to practice. They can easily rearrange and move the sticks until they are in the right order.
Prodigy Math!
Oh boy, was this game a HIT in our classroom. Prodigy Math is a free online game that helps students practice their math skills. It is very interactive and the kiddos barely even realize they are doing math. Also, to make it even better, it sends me some amazing reports on how they are doing. If you would like more information on this game, please reach out to me and I will answer all of the questions that I can.
Truman Pep Assembly!
On Friday, some high school students from Truman High School came to Luff to put on a pep assembly. The goal of the assembly was to get students excited about school and the different activities/sports they can be a part of once they get to high school. It was a very fun assembly, and a few students from our class got to go up and be in the spotlight! I was so excited for them! Please click the link below to see the video!
As usual, it was just wonderful week in our first grade world, and I look forward to another week to come! Thanks for stopping by!
